Does anyone have tips on how to remove those
12 x 12 inch mirror tiles from a plaster wall ? I have
six of them in a very small bathroom. They are attached
to wall with that two sided tape. Have been on the wall
for over 20 years. I know they will have to be broken up
but how do you prepare the area to contain the glass from
going everywhere ? I figure a large sheet of plastic,
how do you break them gently and what tools do you use
to do this safely without getting hurt ???? Ideals, tips and help please. Hate these tiles and want to replace with
large plate glass mirror from ceiling to floor. Ceiling only 7 ft. in small room.

Mine were affixed with some kind of adhesive, not with double sided tape.
I put down heavy plastic sheeting, and used that blue painter's masking tape to tape the mirror tiles to each other, so that when the tile came off the wall, it would not fall to the floor.
I got a two foot long piece of thin wire, affixed handles on each end -- like making a garrote. I ran the wire behind one mirror tile and worked it back and forth while pulling down (or up). The wire cut through the adhesive, and the tile came off.
To get the adhesive off the wall (after the tiles came down) was the hard part!

You could try this:
1. Spread a drop cloth across the area under the mirrored tiles.
2. Put on a pair of heavy work gloves and safety goggles.
3. Apply masking tape or duct tape over the mirrored tiles, covering the mirrors completely. Applying tape over the glass protects you against flying shards as the tiles are broken, and it helps avoid a shower of broken glass falling at one time.
4. Tap the tiles with a hammer, breaking the mirrors into small pieces.
5. Scrape the wall, working the leading edge of a long-handled floor scraper behind the broken tiles. Let the tiles fall onto the drop cloth as you scrape them off the wall.
6. Scrape the wall again, removing the mirror adhesive.
7. Gather the sides of the drop cloth, collecting the mirror, tape and adhesive pieces inside the cloth, then vacuum the area thoroughly with a powerful vacuum cleaner and a hose attachment.
I can't take credit for the answer; I found it on SFGate Home Guides.
If you google "removing mirror tiles from wall" you get this answer and lots more...including how to do it if you want to preserve the mirror tiles...as if anyone would really want to! --173.218.xxx.xx

Janet,
Hire it.
Done.
Go to lunch.
(We slap some duck tape on the glass to limit flying pieces, then use the flatest scraper to wedge behind and GENTLY pry, hoping to EASE the thing loose. A 3" or 6" spackle tool works well.)

break up one of the tiles, the others may pry off with little pressure from a thin tool put under the back side.
I've done this one, but it was a much larger space, wasn't to bad once I got started.

Large piece of plastic sheeting, tape to lower parts of wall, get spray foam - that stuff sticks to everything - spray into the sheet, lift and bust up the glass, fold up and throw out sheet - repeat once if needed, scrape away but be ready for drywall repairs. --75.94.xxx.xxx

Not wasting money to hire it done. I am a do it
yourselfer. I helped put them on back in the 80's so
I am taking them off. Lots of great ideas here, love
covering with duct tape to keep glass from going everywhere.
Will get to work on it Friday, my day off from
my real job. Thanks for all the ideas. --74.236.xxx.xxx
